Given Up Guitar 1 - D A D G B E (Semi-distorted) Guitar 2 - D A D G B E (Distorted) Guitar 3 - D A D G B E (Distorted) This song's pretty fun to play, although I think the intro riff bears a little too much of a resemblence to Points of Authority...but I digress. Guitar 1 is a Fender Telecaster, the tone is instantly recognizable. The other 2 guitars are a pretty normal humbucking distorted tone, I'm gonna stick my neck out and say this is one of the songs Brad used a Les Paul on. Guitar 1 only appears in 2 spots, it plays the first part of the intro and the first part of the bridge. A note on the bridge, The <3b> is a pinch harmonic that is bent up about half a step. On the live version, Brad combines Guitars 2 and 3 in the bridge into a bent octave. To do this, he just frets the octave, rakes across the strings with the pick, and pulls his fingers down to bend the strings. The higher note is usually all that sounds on the live version though, and he doesn't always nail the pinch harmonic. I thought about tabbing it the way he plays it live, but it's almost definitely 2 guitars on the album version. Live, Brad plays Guitars 1 and 2 at all times, and Mike plays Guitar 3, with the exception of the bent octave in the bridge being played only by Brad. I'm also not sure if Mike plays the muted strums before the 2nd chorus, but again, it's clearly played by both guitars on the CD.
